Movement is an intimate language that allows us express our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being in powerful silence. We have been moving ever since we were a tiny embryo inside our mother's body, and have never stopped! We move even while we are sleeping. Every movement holds our unique rhythm and imprint of our essence. Within us our body friend never stops its dance, pumping blood, inhaling-exhaling, multiplying red cells, sending messages along our nervous system and doing all the magical work it needs to keep us alive. Our body is our instrument, the most dense expression of who we are, and our vehicle to experience life.
Life can get very busy and we might not be aware of how we move through our days. How we walk, run, write, hug, smile, brush our teeth, comb our hair, cook, bathe, swim, kiss, eat, and do whatever activities we engage in. Not being aware of our movement robs us of the possibly of realizing it is also a dance. Our daily dance. The dance of life. Boredom might take over awe for the honor we have as human beings to express and explore our Self consciously through movement.
Movement is a gift. If we can move we can dance. Daily life can become a dance if we notice how we move, if we choose to inhabit our body, play with it, and dance!
There are infinite forms of structured dance which follow a specific way of moving the body to a certain music. I am fascinated by all of them and enjoy learning about some; like salsa, the dance of my home town Cali, Colombia. But I want to share with you that my favorite dance is not structured, it is the total opposite! I love Intuitive Movement.
I like to describe Intuitive movement is a raw dance that comes through us when our rational mind gets out of the way and we embody our roots and wings. It is an expression of our physical,, emotional, mental and spiritual being-ness in that moment, and it can be powerful gateway into known and unknown parts of who we are. Intuitive movement can effortlessly support our journey to wholeness, helping us remember who we are and most importantly, allowing ourselves to be ALL we are. And the best part of all is you do not need to learn anything to practice it, other than being in your body mindfully and open to receive whatever movement that arises from it (without shaping it into any previously known form), and feeling your way through the dance that wants to unfold from it. It might not be clear and not make much sense now, but once you experience its healing power you will understand why Intuitive movement can be a reliable and blissful practice, that can deeply support your path to being ALL you are.
