Your roots and your wings are our birthright. Feeling grounded and inspired are basic needs to feel fully alive. There are as many ways for feeling rooted and winged as there are beings on our Earth and beyond, Kundalini Yoga is one of these paths.
I came to Kundalini Yoga when my Yoga practice felt dead. After praying for guidance and clarity Kundalini Yoga came to me, and different signs and prompts took me to embark on a KY teacher training that brought my Yoga path back and beyond life. Let me tell you why.
Kundalini Yoga is a science and art art that balances body, mind and soul. Its technology combines with precision and grace pranayama (breath), drishti (eye focus), mantra (healing sound-chant), bandhasv(body locks) and asanas (body postures- movements) to strengthen the nervous system, harmonize the glandular system, purify the blood and increase lung capacity. It really takes care of our roots and our wings.
Yogi Bhajan brought KY to the west from India, and courageously shifted its legacy from secret to open to ALL.. This Yoga path is powerful and subtle . Yogi Bhajan says that "in Kundalini Yoga the most important thing is your experience. It goes right to your heart. No words can replace your experience. Your mind may accept the words or it may not, but your consciousness will not accept just words."
-Yogi Bhajan, The Aquarian Teacher Training manual, p. 20
I love this. You really need to experience it, feel it and receive the gift.
As a mama of 3 beautiful wild boys who loves to be present in the magic now, I really appreciate everything that is simple and deeply life enhancing.. That is why KY is part of my daily medicine to feel rooted and winged, along with healing chocolate, soul art and living in nature's embrace.
KY has both short and long Kriyas which are healing sets of pranayama, mantra, drishti, mantra and asana created for specific healing purposes that go from strengthening your aura to loving your liver. I want to share with with you one of the most loved essential Kundalini Yoga kriyas: Sat Kriya.
Sat Kriya is a stand alone practice that in just 3 minutes can help you feel grounded, inspired, vibrationally aligned, emanating the frequency that reflects your true you. Keep reading to know more and when you try it, let me know in the comments!
Before I give you the instructions some benefits of Sat Kriya are strengthening the entire sexual system by stimulating its natural energy flow, relaxing sexuality phobias, enabling control of the sexual impulse and rechanneling the energy to creative and healing activities. Sat Kriya also improves general physical health, strengthens the heart through the rhythmic up/down of blood pressure. It is said in the teachings, that people struggling with mental conditions benefit from this kriya because mental problems are a result of unbalanced energy in the lower 3 chakras. Very grounding and liberating for only 3 minutes don't you think?
If you want to do Sat Kriya here is how!
Keep in mind that Sat Kriya stimulates and channels Kundalini energy - the essential and vast life force energy at our root - it must always be practiced with the mantra Sat Nam which means truth is my name. The time may be built up to 31 minutes but ALWAYS with a long, deep relaxation immediately afterwards. A good way to build duration is to start with 3 minutes and rest for 2 and continue in this way for 25 minutes. As you chant Sat pull in the navel, don't try to apply Mulbhand (root lock) which occurs naturally when the navel is pulled, so does your breath. The hips and spine do not flex, and the only motion is a slight up and down of the chest and arms with each Sat Nam.
This kriya was the first one I did and the one that guided me in the rebirthing of my Yoga practice and my Self, and it always returns me to the source of love within me & in All when I get lost. That's why I want you to know Sat Kriya is not just an exercise, it works on all levels of being, known and unknown. Please start slowly. Don't jump from 3 to 31 minutes even if you are feeling strong or are a yoga teacher. By pushing the physical body too much you might block the more subtle experiences of higher energies. I invite you to honor the power of this kriya and how it guides you in cultivating vibrational alignment by gently and steadily becoming more grounded and inspired in your magic now, instead of just having an intense higher consciousness experience you are unable to integrate, make yours & nourish your everyday ways of being and living.
Much love and wishes living attuned feeling rooted and winged.
Let me know how it goes in the comments below :)
