Our true hungers are at the core of intuitive eating, and I am writing about it because it's a
a topic that is very close to my heart... maybe yours too?
It was always very clear to me that what my Body wanted was not what everyone around me ate... food has been are a source of disagreement but also a gateway into my passion for natural healing. It was tricky though to communicate to my loving grandma that her popular savory dishes were not always what I desired, but eventually she understood it was nothing personal! She was so ahead of her time and always open to learning new recipes that I loved and then improved them!
Back to intuitive eating... apart from nourishing our physical body, food is also a carrier of love, a language that expresses our feelings, Our food is imbued with the vibrations and intentions of those who prepare it, and it also holds a potent voice to respond to them by accepting or rejecting it. That's why it is slippery territory and so many disordered eating behaviors are cleared when we start owning our inner life and our voice to express it!
Our stories with food are unique and whether they support the wellbeing of our body-soul or not, they are worth exploring and bringing to our awareness, so we can remove unnecessary charges that might be interfering with truly listening to our hungers and nourishing them with love.
Food just as alcohol, smoking, exercise, sex.. can be source of escaping from our now, specially when it is dense and tense. But just at it can trip us into doom land, it can also be a gateway into freedom. It can show us how we are running away and from what so we can choose to feel it in our inner ocean and let it deliver its message to us. It can be a call to action or a simple greeting and show of what no longer serves us and is wanting to be released. It is time to let go of the blurry lens that clouds our relationship with food so we can enjoy the beauty of nourishing our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being,
First know it's never too late to truly feed your Self. You can remember how to tune into your inner ocean, feel safe, listen deeply and trust what we hear-see-feel-sense, so we can play again with all our waves. You need to feed our true hungers to feel alive, embrace who you really are and live the life you want. You deserve true nourishment, authentic self care.
All the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual/energetic waves that flow through you create your experience. Your moment to moment reality is forever-changing between dark-dense times and light-shimmery moments, always aligned with your life path,whether you grasp it consciously or not.
But most of us learned early in our life how to run away from these unacceptable physical-emotional-mental & spiritual waves. We found how to hide in food, worry, self hatred, body obsession, drugs, alcohol , or any escape practice that could disconnect us from being present in our being. Sadly, along this route of struggle, much of our power and bliss was possibly and might still be.
But reclaiming our spark is just a breath away when you are willing to shift from resisting to allowing the waves of life to move through you. By cultivating the practice of tuning in to your essence, who you really are, feeling ALL these feeling/thought /sensations that arise in your life knowing there's enough space for their unique flow.
Next time you feel the desire to eat notice how you feel. Is it your animal body asking for sustenance or is it a way of leaving and uncomfortable conversation or entertaining yourself? There is no need to judge, just notice so you have juicy information about you inner tangles that are wanting to be untangled.
And, if you decide to eat practice asking your Body for guidance, is it a drink, raw food, warm, grounding, sweet... questions are liberating, they star a healing dialogue that can only help you be more mindful and loving with your Body. And as you eat notice your breath, it will help you know when you are satisfied!
